The vetoing of a resolution by Mayor Timothy Stewart to appoint three members to the Mattabassett District Commission has prompted allegations against the mayor of racial and political intolerance.
In a letter to Town and City Clerk Peter Denuzze Wednesday, Stewart issued a veto of Resolution No. 30815 which appointed William Candelori, Louis Amodio and Edward Sasso to the commission.
Stewart said he had no issues with Amodio or Sasso but that he could not support Candelori's return to the commission.
I do not take this step lightly as I am always reluctant to cast aspersions on New Britain residents who give of their time and talents to public service by serving on local boards and commissions -Timothy Stewart

Jim Sanders runs a business on East Street and has been dealing with taggers, sometimes known as graffiti artists but more often as vandals, for too long.
"We want the neighborhood to look better because I think it makes everyone in the neighborhood feel more positive," Sanders says.

In "Radio Golf," August Wilson attempts to put a capstone on his 10-play chronicle of the black experience in 20th century America.
It's the kind of seemingly impossible task the two-time Pulitzer Prize winner relished.
